Varicose Eczema

Sense of heaviness and tingling in the legs, swollen feet and ankles in the evening, capillary veins evident: these are often the first symptoms of venous insufficiency, a condition whereby the veins of the lower limbs are no longer able to maintain an adequate flow of blood to the heart, causing it to build up.

WHEN IT STRIKES AND HOW IT EVOLVES
It affects 1 adult out of 4 over 45 years of age and is particularly common among women, though it is increasing in men too; it is often linked to hereditary and hormonal factors (pregnancy, menopause) and is aggravated by incorrect lifestyles, such as a sedentary lifestyle and wearing tight trousers and shoes. If not treated promptly, it may evolve into varicose pathology.

VARICOSE ECZEMA
One of the consequences of venous insufficiency is varicose eczema (or stasis eczema), a condition whereby the skin - which has become very thin, fragile and translucid - is easily prone to lesions, even following scratching or slight traumas. If not suitably treated, these lesions may degenerate into varicose ulcers.

COMPRESSIVE THERAPY
Graduated compression stockings are a fundamental aid in the prevention and treatment of disorders linked with venous insufficiency, because they exert a decreasing pressure from the ankle to the knee, pushing the blood towards the heart and combating build-up. These elastic stockings are normally made of polyester or polyamide and should be used daily, because their action is effective if it is continuous. Often this is not done due to the inconvenience and annoyance that they cause (excessive sweating and a cold-damp feeling in the foot, itching and irritation of the skin, dryness, unpleasant smells, difficulty in putting on the stockings). The DermaSilk line with graduated compression has been created to overcome these problems.

The DermaSilk® line proposes Class A Heel-less Under-Socks and Socks with light graduated compression. Thanks to the 100% pure silk protein yarn in contact with the skin and to the permanent antimicrobial:

- they favour venous return
- they reduce itching, irritation and dryness of the skin
- they keep the foot dry and are comfortable to wear in all seasons
- they control and prevent phenomena of dermatitis/eczema and inflammation of the skin
- they avoid the development of unpleasant smells.
