The DermaSilk® line of therapeutic clothing/bandages is indicated among the instruments most recommended by the European Guidelines ETFAD/EADV 2009 for the diagnosis and treatment of Atopic Dermatitis.
In the document, the use of DermaSilk is recommended from mild up to moderate/severe atopic dermatitis.
Thanks to the synergic action of pure silk protein and the permanent antimicrobial, DermaSilk has shown that it can rapidly reduce itching and inflammatory symptoms, improve the thermal and hydrolipid balance, normalise sweating and reduce dryness, control superinfections by bacteria, fungi and yeasts
(see DermaSilk; features, summary of published clinical studies and CNR tests).
For the antiseptic treatment the Guidelines therefore suggest the use of antibacterial fabrics, whereas they express some concern regarding fabrics containing silver and their safety for use in infancy. These fabrics in fact release silver ions (heavy metal), which are absorbed by the skin and mucosa, altering the equilibrium of the resident flora, with negative consequences for health.
Unlike bioactive fabrics containing silver or Triclosan, DermaSilk is totally safe for the skin and mucosa because, acting by contact, it does not release any chemical substance and respects the natural flora of the skin. In addition, DermaSilk performs its antimicrobial action in a very short time span (within 1 hour) and is also efficacious against Malassezia, a microorganism (fungus) that aggravates the clinical picture of Atopic Dermatitis and favours flare-up.
