On the Octber Number of Journal of Lower Genital Tract Disease (Vol. 15, N.4, 2011 287-291 - American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology) has been published the study "DermaSilk Briefs in Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus; An Adjuvant Tool" that demonstrate the efficacy, in comparison versus cotton, in the management of Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus.
It was a randomized double-blind study where 42 woman have been recruited (median age 51,5 years). They were affected by lichen sclerosus from 6 months to 12 years before consultation (mean duration = 2,8 years).
After only one month from the beginning of the study, symptoms like itching, soreness, burning, dryness and dyspareunia, also typical in most common and spread vulvar pathologies, showed a much more significant decrease in DermaSilk group compared to Cotton group.
At the end of the study, five months after, the improvement reported in DermaSilk group was even more significant and pronounced compared to patients who used Cotton, leading in many cases to the resolution of the symptoms.
